FOOTBALL: Yeovil keepers join Reading Academy

PROMISING goalkeepers Chris Povall and Matt Cafer - two local lads from Yeovil - have both been accepted into the academy at Championship outfit Reading after successfully completing trials.

Being enrolled in the academy does not guarantee the pair’s future at the Royals but it will ensure that their potential is nurtured under watchful guidance.

The pair have also been offered trials at Bristol City.

Jay Gibbs, head coach of J4K from Yeovil, is adamant that Povall and Cafer, who are both under-15, are capable of fulfilling their ambitions to play professional football.

“A scout from Reading came to watch them play in Somerset and they were invited up for trials,” he said.

“I would not have put them forward if I wasn’t convinced about their potential.

“They have come on leaps and bounds since they have been training with Just4Keepers over the past six months.

“Their trials involved them being put into game situations and tested on decision making, shot- stopping, dealing with crosses, positioning, kicking and communication.

“Now that they are part of the academy at Reading they will go up there for training every Tuesday evening and every Wednesday.

“Hopefully they will progress well there.”

Gibbs added that it would be three to four years before they could be offered a professional contract because of their ages.

Just 4 Keepers is one of the largest training schools for goalkeepers and operates worldwide.

Since forming ten years ago Just4Keepers has facilitated more than 200 young players who have graduated to professional clubs.

Both Povall and Cafer will now be sponsored by the company and will receive all of their training kit for FREE.

Just4Keepers would like to invite all Somerset keepers for a FREE professional goalkeeping coaching session.
