WINCANTON Racecourse’s meeting on Saturday (Feb 20) will be highlighted in all racing enthusiast’s diaries.
The eagerly anticipated Bathwick Tyres Kingwell Hurdle Raceday, with a £182,500 total prize fund, provides race-goers with their last opportunity to see Cheltenham Festival contenders in action prior to the Olympic meeting from March 16-19.
The £75,000 Bathwick Tyres Kingwell Hurdle is traditionally considered the final trial for Cheltenham Festival’s Champion Hurdle.
Past contests have attracted star horses such as; Nicky Henderson’s Punjabi who finished third in the 2009 Kingwell and went on to victory in the Championship. Other greats included Katchit and Hors La Loi III.
Given the Kingwell focus, the racecourse has successfully recruited the expert tipping skill of Channel 4 Racing presenter, Mike Cattermole, who will mark the card for all Kingwell Restaurant diners.
A limited number of table are still available from £50 + VAT per person – book now via 01963-32344.
Wincanton’s managing director, Steven Clarke, said: “We are thrilled to have secured over 240 entries for Bathwick Tyres Kingwell Hurdle Day – nearly 100 greater that other tracks racing over the weekend - high class action is guaranteed!
“Saturday is our racing jewel and we would like to recommend racegoers to allocate plenty of travel time due to the popularity of the day, coupled with the A303 being closed between Willoughby Hedge and Mere.
“Roadworks will possibly add an additional 30 minutes to one’s jounrney. However, we are supplying two complimentary coaches to cater for those travelling to Templecombe Station.”
Gates open at 11.30am with the first race at 1.25pm and the last race at 5pm.
