SOMERSET all-rounder Lewis Gregory says he is ‘immensely proud and honoured’ to have been awarded his county cap during the final match of the season against Warwickshire at the County Ground.

The 23 year-old was awarded his Somerset cap by club captain Marcus Trescothick and described it as ‘one of the proudest moments in my career so far’.

Gregory said: “It was a really exciting moment and a great honour for me to be presented with my county cap by Marcus.

“It makes you realise just how special it is to be capped when you look down at the list of some of the guys who have been awarded with theirs in the past and what they have achieved for the club.

“It is one of the proudest moments in my career so far and one that I will cherish for the rest of it.

“I must admit that it came as a complete surprise to me because we went into a team huddle before going out for the session and then suddenly it was announced that I was going to be presented with my cap, so it was a real shock.

“I am immensely proud and honoured to have been given my cap.”

Gregory made his first team debut in 2010 after graduating through the Somerset Academy and played in 12 LV County Championship matches in 2015, in which he scored 242 runs with a best of 32.

He also claimed 38 wickets, the second highest for the county, at an average of 34.58 with a best of 6-101.

Lewis played in five Royal London One-Day Cup games in which he averaged 17.75 with the bat and took nine wickets at 22.56.

He also took part in eight NatWest T20 Blast matches when he averaged 16.25 batting wise and took four wickets.
