ONE of Somerset CCC’s biggest fans has written a song ahead of the team’s Royal London One Day Cup quarter-final this Tuesday, June 13.

The family of Charles Clive Ponsonby-Fane will be known to cricket historians, as his great-grandfather Sir Spencer Ponsonby-Fane helped found I-Zingari.

Sir Spencer also laid the foundation stone of the Pavilion at Lord’s, and was the first ever president of Somerset CCC from 1891 to 1915.

Somerset County Gazette:

SONGWRITER: Charles Clive Ponsonby-Fane.

Now his great-grandson has penned Go Somerset – The Song for Somerset County Cricket Club to help Somerset in this year’s 50-over cup.

He said: “Suddenly when I was driving along the tune came to me, and it was so catchy I had to go straight home and write it down.”
