JAMIE Overton has expressed his pride after his twin brother Craig was named in the England squad for this winter's tour to Australia.
Speaking before the start of day three between Somerset and Middlesex in Taunton, he said: "It’s great news for him. He’s done ridiculous things this year for us and I’m very proud of him, so hopefully he can go and enjoy success down there.
“It’s not been ideal for him at Taunton this year as we’ve gone down the spin route, but he’s worked out how to bowl on that in the last couple of years and he has been more effective on these sort of surfaces than ever before. If he can bowl on this, he can bowl on any surfaces.
“I think the Australian pitches will suit him more than here. He’s quite tall, he gets good pace and he moves it away from the batsman so if he keeps doing that he won’t be far away from a place.”
Jamie could have pushed for a slot himself but for a back injury which has ruled him out of the majority of this campaign, but is using his brother's selection as an example of what can be achieved.
“He has had a couple of injury-free years and made the most of that, so hopefully I can do the same in the years to come."

National selector James Whitaker said: “Craig Overton, who like Foakes has come through the International Pathway, has been involved in the England set-up this summer with the Lions and the IT20 squad. He will now get his chance at Test level.
"We have been impressed with the way he has led Somerset’s attack over a long period of time. He has taken 43 Championship wickets this summer and will relish playing in Australian conditions."
Somerset players and fans were also swift to praise Overton on social media.

Elsewhere, there was widespread dismay at Jack Leach's omission.
The 25-year-old has taken more County Championship wickets than anyone else over the last two seasons, but 20-year-old Hampshire spinner Mason Crane has been selected instead - despite playing only seven First Class matches this season.
Jamie Overton said: "“Leachy’s done remarkable things and he’s taken the most wickets in the last two years, so it’s gutting for him.
"I don’t know what else he can do really, but I hope he keeps plugging away as he has definitely got the ability to play for England.”
Absolutely ridiculous that Mason Crane has been picked ahead of @jackleach1991. What more does he have to do? #AshesSquad

Not picking Jack Leach sends a terrible message to those consistently performing well in the County Championship.

For years, Hildreth missed out on Eng call up because Taunton 'too flat' - now Leach being dismissed because it's 'spin-friendly'......

And Somerset captain Tom Abell joined in, congratulating Overton but sympathising with Leach...
Could not be happier for @craigoverton12, what a beauty! Unbelievable achievement and nothing less than he deserves. Well done boy 👊👊 https://t.co/Fv3LVhc1jz
