SOMERSET and England star Anya Shrubsole has capped a memorable year with her inclusion in the New Year's Honours List.

The seamer has been awarded an MBE for services to cricket after helping her country win the Women's World Cup on home soil over the summer, including a match-winning 6-46 in the sold out final against India at Lord's.

Skipper Heather Knight and coach Mark Robinson have both been awarded OBEs, while Shrubsole's teammate Tammy Beaumont joins the Bath-born star in collecting an MBE.

The 26-year-old was also nominated for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award earlier this month as women's cricket continues to make great strides.

Reflecting on her latest honour, Shrubsole told the BBC: "It's pretty surreal - it's not something I ever thought would happen at any point since I started playing cricket.

"I got a letter in the post telling me I'd received an MBE and my mum had accidentally opened it, so she knew a day before me."
