JEROME Taylor is in line to make his Somerset debut tomorrow, after the West Indies fast bowler was named in the squad to face Surrey in the Vitality T20 Blast.

The match at the Kia Oval (6.30pm start) is the first of two T20 fixtures for Somerset this weekend, as they host Middlesex on Sunday (4pm).

The latter match - part of a double-header with Western Storm's Kia Super League encounter with Loughborough Lightning - is Somerset's first action at the Cooper Associates County Ground since July 8.

Team news

Lewis Gregory has returned to full fitness, and is set to lead the side for the first time since signing a new three-year contract.

New signing Taylor, 34, is also included in the 13-strong squad - and it will be interesting to see who makes way for him to make his debut, given Somerset have won their last two in this competition.

Somerset squad: Tom Abell, Corey Anderson, Josh Davey, Steve Davies,  Lewis Gregory, James Hildreth, Johann Myburgh, Craig Overton, Jamie Overton, Jerome Taylor, Peter Trego, Roelof van der Merwe and Max Waller.

Team form

Having lost to Kent and Gloucestershire, Somerset bounced back in style by winning twice in two days - away to Middlesex and Glamorgan.

Surrey are riding high at the top of the County Championship, and they've also turned things round in the T20 Blast after a poor start.

They opened with defeats to Middlesex and Kent, but since then they've beaten Essex and Sussex - before last Friday's match at Kent was abandoned due to the rain, Surrey having posted 250-6.

As it stands, Somerset are third in the South Group table with six points, and Surrey are fifth with five points.

Last season

At the Oval last July, Surrey posted 181-7 from their 20 overs.

Somerset just failed to chase it down, despite Corey Anderson hitting 81 off 45 balls on his debut, and the hosts being penalised 12 runs - the away side ending up four runs short.

Back in Taunton, Surrey again batted first and made 157-6.

James Hildreth (45no), Roelof van der Merwe (36) and Craig Overton (35no) steered the hosts to victory by four wickets.

What they said

Somerset bowler Max Waller told the County Gazette: "The two wins last week stand us in good stead and Jerome Taylor coming in should help us with our death bowling, which we have struggled with in our first five games."

On his spin partnership with Roelof van der Merwe, Waller added: "Pace off the ball has been an effective tactic in T20s for a few years now and I enjoy bowling with Roelof - he’s a great guy and a quality bowler."

And looking ahead to tomorrow night, he said: "I’m really looking forward to it – I love those occasions and perhaps I’ll have to have an outrageous celebration lined up.

"It will be a big test for us and we then have three home games in a row, so we have a chance to build momentum."
