SURREY and England all-rounder Tom Curran likened Somerset's support to "a bunch of peasants" after his side went down to a four-wicket defeat in Taunton on Friday night.

Curran, who scored 21 and claimed two wickets in the match, took to Twitter shortly after his side's loss and wrote: "Comfortably the worst crowd I've ever experienced today.

"A complete embarassment to Somerset CCC and all their players (who played a great game and are very good men). A bunch of peasants setting a terrible example for the many young kids I saw in the crowd today. Such a shame!"

The tweet was hastily deleted, but not before it was picked up on by Somerset supporters on social media.

Curran's words sparked a mixed response, with some Somerset fans quick to criticise the player while others took a more balanced and sympathetic approach.
