FORMER Manchester United and England midfielder Owen Hargreaves says Yeovil Town 'must be aggressive' if they are to pull off a major FA Cup giant killing when the sides meet at Huish Park on January 4.
BT Sport football expert Hargreaves, who played 27 times for United, scoring twice, says the Glovers must not be overawed by their opponents and make it as difficult as possible for Wayne Rooney and co.
He said: “They need to be aggressive, if you give good players time on the ball they will punish you – but if you make it difficult for them, who knows.
“I remember one of my first games as a young player in Canada, playing against Luis Figo.
“I remember taking the ball off of him and realising that he’s just another player and that gave me a lot of confidence.
“I think for these guys, you have to forget who’s in front of you and just be aggressive and composed and you can be amazed at what you can get out of a game – just pushing yourself and not giving them any space and time on the ball.
“For the Yeovil guys, it’s everything – for bigger sides, these games are harder to play in than a Champions League final – most of them wouldn’t have played at grounds like that before, or on pitches like that.
“Man United have to bring that effort to the match, if they do that, there’s only one winner - if they don’t, we’ve already seen with Milton Keynes earlier in the season, you can get rolled over.”
Hargreaves believes Gary Johnson’s side must target set-pieces and get the ball into the penalty area, if they are to expose any of United’s defensive frailties.
He said: “Set pieces are another one – can they make it difficult for United at set-pieces?
“Yeovil just need to take their opportunity when it come – they’ve got to be able to hold the ball up and get balls into the box – as good as United are going forward, they are not defensively sound.”
Yeovil Town versus Manchester United is one of three FA Cup Third Round games exclusively live on BT Sport.
Coverage starts at 3.15pm on BT Sport 1, Sunday December 4.
