YEOVIL Town Ladies boss Steve Phelps has praised reserve keeper Stacey Pearson for going between the posts following an injury to regular number one.
The Glovers are still toasting a memorable 3-1 victory at Norwich City Ladies on Sunday in the FA Women's Cup Fourth Round.
But things did not look so rosy early on when Norwich took the lead and then Yeovil keeper Rachel 'Dodge' Simkin had to go off injured after she had bravely come out for an interception.
"There was nothing malicious about the challenge," said Phelps.
"Both girls had to go for the ball, and Dodge got clattered, although she did win the tackle!
"To be honest we had to drag Dodge off. There was no way that she could have carried on though, but she was so upset, she just wanted to stay on and play her part.
"Great attitude, and typical of our players! So as I said, we had to bring her off, but we brought on Stacey Person, who went on to have a great game."
Hoping to capitalise on the loss of Yeovil's goalkeeper, the opposition attacked with force, but they found Pearson in great form, as she made two significant saves, the second of which she brilliantly tipped over the bar following a powerful shot at goal.
And Phelps added: "Don't forget that Stacey played in goal for us throughout last season.
"She is a decent 'keeper and will never let you down. It was a big thing for her in that situation, coming in at 1-0 down in a big game, but she did brilliantly and played a massive part on a great win."
