Somerset College in Taunton has set up a scheme where young apprentices can work and study at the college The programme sees participants do one day a week study and four days in the workplace. Three young people have just started their apprenticeship in Business Administration Level 2 at the college. The They are:
- Chantelle Frounks - based in the enterprise administration office
- James Mortimore - in the foundation studies administration office
- Calvin Atkinson - social and professional studies.
Amanda Middleton, curriculum area manager for business, said: “This is an excellent opportunity for apprentices to both work and study within Somerset College. The apprentices will experience working practices within a large organisation while being well supported as learners.”
A fortnightly meeting has been set up so that all the apprentices can get together and talk about their experiences and discuss improvements that may enhance their experience.
It is hoped that more apprentices will join this scheme over the next few weeks and that in future the college will be able to offer Level 3 Apprenticeships for progression and further experience of working at the college.
