A 32-year-old man has been sentenced to 30 months in prison for racially aggravated GBH without intent.

Dale Ashford of Wyndham Street, Yeovil, pleaded guilty at Yeovil Magistrates Court on Monday, October 17.

The incident took place during the early hours of the June 6, 2016. 

There was an unprovoked assault in which Ashford attacked the victim, causing injuries that later needed reconstructive surgery.

Dale Ashford PC Jim Card from Yeovil Investigations Team said: “This is a terrible incident which has left the victim feeling scared, intimidated and needing surgery.

"There is simply no excuse for hate crime in any shape or form and this sort of behaviour will not be tolerated.”

"We will always support anyone who has been a victim of racially aggravated crime and will continue to work prevent all crimes motivated by prejudice and hate.”
