DRIVERS are being urged to avoid the M5 after another serious crash between junctions 25 and 26.

The accident happened on the southbound carriageway between the junctions for Taunton and Wellington shortly after 6am.

UPDATE: M5 reopened after two M5 crashes leaves one dead and motorcyclist seriously injured

The M5 is fully closed southbound with some traffic trapped in the closure, and one lane is closed northbound.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset police said: "A motorcyclist has been seriously injured after coming off his bike. He has been taken to Musgrove Park Hospital with serious multiple injuries.

"The motorway is currently closed between J25-26 southbound and motorists are urged avoid or delay journeys they plan to make to the south west.

"There is also a further serious collision which Devon and Cornwall Police are dealing with between J28-29 southbound which may add to the delays for anyone planning to travel southbound on the M5 into Devon and Cornwall.

"Thank you for your patience while we deal with the incidents."

Traffic reports are currently showing drivers severely affected on M5 up to Bridgwater, and there is already some severe queueing on A38 southbound near Bishop's Hull and Rumwell.

There has also been a second crash, between junction 28 and 29.

A spokesman for Highways England said: "The motorway is closed in the southbound direction following the two incidents, the first between junction 25 and junction 26 took place just after 6am and the second between junction 28 and junction 29 took place at 6.45am today.

"Emergency services are at the scene. It is likely that the carriageway will remain closed beyond the morning peak and drivers are urged to consider delaying their journeys or use alternative routes.

"Southbound traffic prior to junction 25 is advised to exit the M5 at junction 25 and follow the solid black square diversion symbol along A38.

"Southbound traffic prior to junction 28 are advised to follow the solid black triangle diversion."
