TWO new promoters from Yeovil have taken the DIY punk approach to making sure they can hear the music they and other fans like.

James Simmonds and Ollie Beaton have set up Yeovil Punk Collective which is a music promotions project in the town.

Their aim is to book punk bands, give them a platform to perform on in Yeovil and give punk fans a chance to hear their favourite kind of music.

So far they have book the The Murderburgers are a high-energy melodic three piece punk rock’n’roll band from Scotland to appear at the Mermaid Hotel in Yeovil on July 27.

James said: “What we want to do is bring music to Yeovil.

We want to see more live bands in our area. All I want to do is give Yeovil a vibrant underground music scene.

What we do is book teh bands and then find a suitable venue for them.”

James, 34, used to be in a number of punk bands including Killed by Hollywood and Opting Out. He still plays live acoustic punk sets under the name of A J Simmonds.
