A FIRE appears to have caused severe damage to a property in South Petherton this evening (Thursday, September 6).
Emergency service personnel including firefighters, police and ambulance crews have all been seen on St James Street in South Petherton.
One picture shows the severe damage to the roof of the property.
Initially firefighters from Martock, Yeovil and Ilminster attended the incident after reports of a sofa being set on fire.
As of 11.30pm a total of six pumping appliances and one water carrier were in attendance due to significant fire spread.
Crews look set to work late into the night using breathing apparatus, hose reel jets, ladders and positive pressure ventilation fans to extinguish hotspots.
The road has been closed off while the matter is dealt with.
