CARNIVAL season kicks off in South Somerset with the Ilminster Children’s Carnival this weekend.

The attraction will take place on Saturday, September 29, showcasing the best young talent in the carnival community.

Young people and youth groups from Ilminster and beyond will meet at Ile Youth Club from 12.30pm. The procession starts at 1.45pm.

The parade will go into East Street, Silver Street, Strawberry Bank, North Street, East Street and finish at the youth club.

Entries can be returned to Ilminster Home Hardware, and the deadline is Thursday.

Ilminster’s main carnival event will take place the following weekend, on October 6, starting at 7.15pm.

Brad Amor, of the Ilminster carnival committee said: “This year Ilminster Carnival are again running the decorated window competition.

“We are asking local businesses to join in the fun of carnival week by decorating their shop window with carnival inspired themes to set the mood.

“There is no entry fee for taking part however, the winner will receive a trophy which will be awarded on carnival night and can be held until Carnival 2019.

“Last year we received a great response and we are hoping that this year will be just as successful.
