MORE than 700 children and parents were given an insight into The King Alfred School at an open evening.

Nathan Jenkins, headteacher of the school, spoke to visitors about the school and hundreds of students took them on tours of the school campus.

The school’s English teachers also dressed up as characters from Shakespeare plays and interacted with children and more than 500 school water bottles were given out.

The Highbridge school is set to become part of The Priory Learning Trust next month and celebrated after achieving good GCSE and A Level results and extending its extra-curricular programme this year.

In recent months the school has had a positive Ofsted visit, improvements to its site and a £1.2 million cash boost from the Government to repair its roofs.

Speaking after the event, Mr Jenkins said: “It was wonderful to meet so many prospective students and their parents and carers.

“There were so many smiling faces across the site and a tremendous atmosphere.

“These are exciting times for the whole community.”
