THE MAYOR of Ilminster has hailed the ‘tremendous support’ from the town’s residents after experiencing great success with her recent Macmillan Cancer Support event.

Cllr Julie Fowler helped to run a Biggest Coffee Morning fundraiser at the end of last month and saw a strong turn out.

The charity event raised £1,500 for Macmillan, which was given in a big cheque handover last week.

Cllr Fowler said: “We had tremendous support from local businesses and voluntary organisations as well as the wonderful community of Ilminster.

“A big thank you to all those who gave so generously of their time and effort as well as those who supported the event on the day.

“It is a marvellous result and could not have been achieved without great team work from everyone.”

A big cheque was presented to presented to Genevieve Drinkwater, Macmillan’s senior regional fundraising manger in the South West, at the town’s Market House on Friday morning.

The handover was also well attended by the event’s attendees and volunteers.

So far, nearly £3.1million has been raised by Macmillan Cancer Support’s Biggest Coffee Morning 2018.
