THE Museum of Somerset, in Taunton, is holding a major exhibition, Faces of Conflict: Somerset and the First World War.

It opens on Saturday, November 10, and runs until March 2 next year.

The museum will open on Armistice Day (Sunday, November 11), and there will be a two-minute silence at 11am.

Visitors will have the opportunity to create a community artwork inspired by the centenary of the end of the First World War and engage with objects and archives connected to the armistice in Somerset.

There will be a display of Victoria Crosses awarded to soldiers from Somerset during the war, a portrait of the Last Tommy, Harry Patch, and an immersive audio-visual installation exploring the legacy of the conflict for people in the county and the concept of remembrance.

Faces of Conflict has been produced in partnership with West Somerset College as part of the Adventures in Time project funded by Arts Council England.

Volunteer guides are leading a walking tour of central Taunton to teach people about the town's role in the conflict - booking for the event on November 17 and 21 is advised via 01823-255088 or e-mail museumofsomerset@swheritage.org.uk and the cost is £3.50.
