A CHARD care home has been trialling equipment that helps get people with dementia active.
The Motiview project was launched at Sunnymead Care Home on Monday, November 19.
The aim is to help elderly people and people living with dementia doing exercise. The technology allows residents to cycle through familiar surroundings using an exercise bike, video and sound.
Pat Ellesmere, Somerset Care, said: “Motiview is an easy to use tool that stimulates older people and people living with dementia to be more physically and cognitively active.
“The user can take cycling trips through familiar surroundings, reminisce childhood memories with adapted soundtrack, or take a cycling trip to new places. Motiview helps give the user a complete immersive experience. “
The home says there are benefits to using the equipment, including improved wellbeing, mobility, better sleep, faster rehabilitation, and can even help improve depression. It’s supported by the active ageing fund from Sport England.
