A FITNESS centre is Chard has been reopened by a Paralympian.

1610 Chard has been officially reopened after a refurbishment of the facilities.

Giles Moor, a Paralympian footballer from Somerset, officially cut the ribbon.

The new facilities include an exercise studio, a cafe and a reception area.

Manager, Trish Bishop, said: “1610 has always embraced the latest developments in the fitness industry to offer our members the most technologically advanced equipment. We have the UK’s largest 'Prama' interactive studio and now we are adding to this with an Active Fitness Lab and Holistic studio.

"We never stand still in terms of development and it is paying off with a doubling of membership.

"We combine the best of technology with a diverse range of facilities and a personal approach to customer service.

" We have staff trained in mental health first aid to create a welcoming relaxed atmosphere and the new social hub being created will add to that to give the local community in Chard a 21st century facility in tune with their needs.”

New changing facilities have been provided as well as a holistic studio catering for dance, Pilates, Yoga, Tai Chi as well as mother and baby classes. Sports Massage services will also be made available for the first time.

Plans are also in place to develop a active lab facility, which will provide analysis and guidance of body make up including DNA testing, blood sugar levels, cholesterol and body biometrics measurements.
