THE people of Chard flocked to the town centre on Friday night to see the town mark the start of the festive season.

Hundreds of people filled the high street to see the town’s Christmas Lights switch on, which was carried out by the mayor and a Chard School pupil who had won an experience shadowing him for the day.

Chard Carnival royalty Lucas Jones and Kezzia Collins also helped with the grand lighting event.

The Guildhall was also filled with stalls.

These including some good causes raising money and awareness such as the Chard Defib Group and cancer treatment charity Hope For Tomorrow.

Music was performed in the foyer by Les Beresford.

There was also carnival rides, food and candyfloss, and majorettes to entertain the crowd outside.

In true festive fashion, Santa Claus was also in attendance for children’s wishes.
