SOME of Ilminster’s more isolated residents got together for a jolly complimentary Christmas feast thanks to one of the town’s businesses.

The Kitchen on Silver Street provided a delicious festive feast for a number of elderly or vulnerable people who live in Ilminster and the surrounding area.

Francesca Truss, owner of The Kitchen, said: “We just decided we wanted to give back something to the community and do a free Christmas lunch.”

She added that she wanted to help out “the elderly or the vulnerable people, just people who are on their own and might not have as much family around at this time of year”.

Ahead of the community get together, Francesca said she had also seen some tears from people as they were so delighted to receive an invitation.

To try and encourage people to not feel reserved about attending, she asked townsfolk to nominate people who they thought could benefit from the free Christmas meal and the company that came with it.

Then, attendees were presented with an invitation designed by The Kitchen on Silver Street staff, or sent to them in the post.

The event was also made possible thanks to Bonner’s, Ilminster’s award-winning butchers, who donated the Christmas turkey.

The event was held on Sunday afternoon.

Francesca added: “We think a great time was had by all.”
