POLICE swooped on a Chard supermarket after reports of a teenager carrying a gun.

Officers moved in on Chard's Tesco store late yesterday afternoon (January 3) and one person was arrested.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said: "We were called to reports of a man with a firearm at a superstore in Tapstone Road in Chard last night at about 5.30pm.

"There was a group of teenagers, one of which was reported to have a firearm.

"Shortly afterwards a teenager was arrested and an imitation firearm seized."

A spokesman for Tesco said: “Colleagues at our Chard Superstore alerted the police following an incident outside the store and we have assisted them with their inquiries.”
