A MAN was taken to hospital with a suspected neck injury after his car rolled into a ditch and ended up on its roof.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service and South Western Ambulance Service were called to a slip road on J22 of the M5 northbound near Burnham-on-Sea following reports that a person was trapped inside a car.
Two fire engines from Burnham-on-Sea and a rescue tender from Taunton were sent to help free the man.
When firefighters arrived they confirmed the car was on its roof and a man was trapped inside.
Crews stabilised the car using stab fast equipment from Bridgwater Fire Station and removed a door using hydraulic rescue equipment to allow paramedics to safely access the man.
The man was taken to Southmead Hospital for treatment for a suspected neck injury.
A spokesman for South Western Ambulance Service, said: "Paramedics were called at 12.18pm on January 5 to a road traffic collision where a car had rolled into a ditch off the slip road at J22 on the M5 going northbound.
"One male patient was treated at the scene and taken onto Southmead hospital ED for further treatment with a suspected neck injury."
Firefighters made the car safe and left the incident with police and the Highways Agency, who also attended the incident.
