MORE than 600 people turned out to an art exhibition hosted by a primary school in Chard.

Pupils from Manor Court Primary School proudly presented their artwork at the Guildhall on Friday, January 18, for family and friends to view.

During the autumn term, the entire school was learning about different aspects of the town, including its geography and history. The pupil's also studies artist LS Lowry and created their own artwork in his style, focusing on the aspect of the town they were learning about.

Luke Talmage, Head Teacher has said “As adults, we were fully supportive of the children’s wish to showcase their work and believed that creating an exhibition in the centre of Chard, would enable more people to enjoy their many talents. "The exhibition is an occasion to celebrate the wonderfully talented children who attend Manor Court.”

Artwork on display ranged from whole class pieces to individual paintings and drawings, collage and sculptures. The pupils used a variety of materials to create their pieces, from watercolour paints and pencils, to 4B pencils, colouring pencils, silk paints and felt tip pens.

Mayor of Chard, cllr Garry Shortland attended to open the exhibition, alongside Somerset cllr Amanda Broom, and a lot of proud parents.

In total, 622 people visited the art show.

Art teacher, Janet Morton, said: "The children loved seeing their work on display in a public place.

"It was wonderful to see their beaming faces as they found their picture and pointed it out to their friends and teachers."

Although the exhibition was free to attend, the school did collect more than £150 in donations for its chosen charity When You Wish Upon A Star.
