A POPULAR community event helped raise thousands of pounds last year, which will now go to charity.

The Ashill Meat Bingo Committee has announced a total of £2,500 was raised from its events in 2018.

Following on from the committee’s success, ten good causes will now benefit from a generous donation.

A spokesman for the committee said: “The monthly bingo sessions, which are held in Ashill Village Hall, have long been the village’s way of supporting worthy causes.

“The ten charities have all received the sum of £250 each, totalling £2,500 for the year.”

The charities to benefit from the profits were: Children’s Hospice South West, Chard Riding for the Disabled Carriage Driving Group, St Margaret’s Hospice, Children with Cancer, Brainwave, Blind Veterans, SURE at Musgrove Park Hospital, Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, Macmillan Cancer Support, and the British Heart Foundation.
