WELLINGTON'S mayor has said goodbye after two years in the post.
Cllr Gary James thanked the councillors for allowing him to hold the position for the last two years at the final town council meeting ahead of the May elections.
He said: "Thank you for allowing me to be your mayor.
"The experiences and engagements are too numerous to mention.
"I want to thank all the groups that contribute to Wellington. They all come together and add to the mix.
"As the town expands I hope the new people feel welcome.
"You've got to get involved, this life is not a dress rehearsal. I believe the new council will come together for the benefit of the town."
He thanked the residents of Wellington and the members of public who attend the meeting for keeping the councillors 'on their toes'.
He finished his goodbye speech with a final thanks, this time to his wife Bee, who has supported him and attended many events with him during his tenure as mayor.
Councillors expressed their thanks to Cllr James, saying he had 'added' to the role of the mayor by being so present.
