AROUND 200 runners are expected to converge on Minehead Esplanade for the reinstated Minehead half-marathon - and a new 10k run - this Sunday.

The race is returning to the town after an absence of 20 years thanks to the determination of a group of local runners who work at Kingspan Water & Energy, based in Williton.

The company is providing cash prizes for first, second, and third male and female finishers, as well as medals for everyone who completes the course.

All proceeds from the race will go to Elliot’s Touch, a Watchet-based charity that aims to raise awareness of mitochondria disease and genetic heart disease in babies and infants.

“Entries are still open, if anyone feels inspired to take part and we welcome donations through our registration page," says Chris Spink, race director.

"If you’re not a runner, please turn out anyway to give your support. There’s nothing like a good crowd to keep tired legs moving.”

Further information, as well as pre-event registration for runners is available at kingspanhalfmarathonand10k.eventbrite.co.uk.
