A DESPERATE fundraising appeal has been launched to bring a Taunton man in life-threatening condition home.

Paul Elleray, 62, has been living in Cyprus since 2015 enjoying some time in the sun until disaster struck on May 16.

Paul’s daughter Jodie was waiting for a phone call to wish her happy birthday, but was concerned when she didn’t hear from him.

A friend of Paul’s went to check on him, when he was found unconscious on the floor.

Miss Elleray said: “He was taken in an ambulance to the local hospital and after a CT scan he was diagnosed with a subdural haematoma.

“He was then transferred two hours away to the hospital in the Capital Nicosia to be assessed by the neuro surgeon.

“The surgeon decided that the position of the subdural haematoma was too dangerous to operate on.”

Jodie and her sister Gemma are now left with the huge financial burden of bringing their dad home where he can access better medical care.

The pair rushed out to see him the day after, using what little savings they already had.

Now, they need to fundraise £50,000 in order to bring their beloved dad home.

Miss Elleray added: “He was transferred back to Paphos Hospital on Wednesday May 21.

“They are saying that there is nothing more they can do for him and are expecting us to take him home.

“He has no movement on his right side, cannot talk and his swallow reflex is very limited.

“We are trying to raise funds to get him back to the UK via air ambulance, but his is obviously very costly.”

Mr Elleray previously served in the army, worked for GCHQ and in police communications.

He also has three grandchildren who adore him.

Miss Elleray says the hospital in Cyprus has offered little treatment, and she and her sister are unable to care for him at his home in Cyprus due to his current medical needs.

Without hospital treatment, the haematoma could bleed and cause the death of the beloved patriarch.

“Anyone that knows our dad, will know that he is the kindest, most loving and giving man there is,” Jodie added.

“He would do anything for anybody.

“I realise everyone has their own thing they like to support but we are desperate, we need him home to get him treated and have our loving, caring dad back.”
