THE Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival Committee is holding an open day so charities, community groups and other good causes can find out more about how they could benefit from this year’s Bridgwater Carnival.

The open day, which is being held on Sunday, June 9, 10:30am to 3pm at the Bridgwater Carnival Centre, is an opportunity for charities and not-for-profit organisations to drop in and learn more about how they can get involved in Bridgwater’s biggest night of the year.

Mike Dodden, Bridgwater Carnival’s collection officer, said: “Helping local charities and organisations to boost their funds is an integral part of our carnival activities, and there are a number of ways in which charities and groups could raise money from our carnival, including helping with the street collection, managing our official car parks, and selling souvenir programmes, to name just a few.

“The purpose of the open day is about talking through how these fundraising and volunteering activities work, and how we can help each other.”

Last year £18,000 was shared between 50 charities, community groups, clubs and not for profit organisations, and this year carnival organisers are hoping to raise even more.

“There are loads of different fundraising opportunities available," added Mike who is in his second year as collection officer.

“I really do hope we see some new groups coming along to the open day, and let’s make Bridgwater Carnival 2019 the biggest and best yet.”
