FAMILIES were out in force for a special picnic in the park event on Thursday (May 30).

The occasion was to see the formal opening of the new play area at Bower Ponds where families could enjoy a free picnic and children enjoyed balloon modelling and trying out the new equipment.

Sedgemoor District Council chairman Peter Clayton and Bridgwater mayor Tony Heywood cut the ribbon for the play park following its £70,000 makeover.

The works included a new climbing frame with slide, trampoline, swings, an assault course, outdoor gym, new access arrangements, pathways and seating. The Sedgemoor District Council project was supported by LiveWest and Bridgwater Town Council.
