WORKS to give Bridgwater Town Centre a revamp will get underway on Monday, June 3.

The long-awaited programme will see a number of changes on Fore Street and High Street with the aim of giving the area a new look and feel.

The £130,000 improvement scheme will see de-cluttering and freshening up of street furniture such as seats, lamp posts, cycle racks; updating and improved signage and replacement of dying and diseased trees, as well as reconfiguring of the raised area at West Quay, all intended to create an improved environment and experience for town centre visitors.

Once the work is complete, the whole area will be given a thorough wash and brush up with power washers just in time for the fabulous Quayside Festival on Saturday, July 20.

Sedgemoor District Council says it is aware there is quite of lot of bird mess and other marks on the pavements at present, but in view of the planned works it was felt to best to carry out power washing once the work was finished.

The improvement works are part of four-year Bridgwater Town Centre Support Project aiming to increase footfall, deliver new events and connect the town centre to the English Coast Path.

The move to put new lights on the Town Bridge was also part of the support project initiative.
