Bridgwater 3rds 127-5 beat Burnham-on-Sea 126 by 5 wkts

BURNHAM-ON-SEA’S middle order was ripped to shreds by Somerset Women’s bowler Tilly Bond on Saturday as Bridgwater 3rds ran out victors.

Bridgwater won the toss and inserted the visitors, who made a steady start against the youthful opening attack of Calum Pope and Freddie Brewer, who picked up the early wicket of Jim Bloodworth (2).

Dave Worthington (22) and Brad House (12) made starts without kicking on and then the introduction of Bond put the hosts in the ascendancy as she picked up 3-7 off seven overs.

Supported by her captain, Mike Skidmore (3-44), Burnham were never able to get away in what was an excellent bowling display, and they were eventually bowled out for 126, Fred Berry finishing unbeaten on 13.

In reply, opening batsmen James Salt and Skidmore put together a decent opening partnership of 30 for the first wicket before Skidmore (16) was strangled down the leg side from the bowling of Ollie Farnham (1-39 off six).

This brought Rhys Hayward in to join Salt and this pair put together a match winning partnership, taking the score to 101 before Salt fell to Pete Harris (2-2 from 5.1) for a well made 39.

Despite a wobble, with Connor Lefrere (2-25 from nine) picking up a couple of quick wickets, Hayward stood firm, supported by Scott Sealey, to see his side home with an undefeated 44.
