AN Ashill man accused of carrying out a vicious attack on his partner at his address has been ordered to stand trial in August.

Reece Smith is alleged to have argued with the complainant and then grabbed her by her hair and forcibly smacked her head against the bathroom window causing her to fall to the floor.

He then started punching his own head and allegedly grabbed a knife and put it to his own throat shouting “This is what you’ve done to me”

When she told him to get out he was said to have kept pulling her while she held onto the toilet seat, eventually causing it to break off.

The 24-year-old defendant, of Wood Road, pleaded not guilty to assaulting his partner by beating her during the incident on June 3 when he appeared before Somerset Magistrates at Yeovil.

The court was told that Smith accepted there had been an argument between them but denied the alleged contact saying he had been acting in self defence and had just restrained the complainant by her arm.

A review of the case was conducted and the matter was adjourned until August 16 for a trial to take place.

Until then Smith was released on conditional bail on the understanding he does not contact the complainant directly or indirectly and does not go to a specified address in Bridgwater.
