CHARD Carnival organisers are calling on the town’s children to come forward for a chance to be royalty.

This year’s Chard Canirval prince and princess competition is now open, but more people are needed to come forward.

As well as being a part of the Chard Carnival parade, the town’s royalty will also be asked to take part in other official parades.

Last year, Prince Lucas and Princess Kezzia were given the roles.

Claire Brown is one of the carnival royalty organisers.

She said: “Every year we look for new royalty to represent Chard in other carnivals and our own carnival.

“This role is to represent your town and attend many events in the town.

“You also award the participants of the carnival their prizes.”

Among those taking part this year is nine-year-old Lauren Perry.

She is an Avishayes Primary School pupil who loves dancing, playing on the iPad and playing with friends.

Claire added: “Look out for Lauren holding events and selling carnival raffle tickets.”
