A PIECE of motor racing history will go under the hammer in Somerset today (August 10).
Charterhouse auctioneers are hosting the first of their August auctions at the Haynes Motor Museum, at Sparkford, featuring specialist motorcycles.
Among them will be a GP-winning bike from 1954, valued at between £35,000 and £40,000.
The Moto Guzzi motorcycle won the 1954 Italian 250 GP.
“It has been full on during the warm weather this year,” said Richard Bromell.
“My favourite appointment was to meet client to view at his motorcycle collection which was stored at the Top Gear race track near Guildford, but sadly it was not on a filming day.”
Other highlights of the specialist auction are a 1955 Vincent Black Prince at £60,000-70,000, the ex-Arthur Wheeler, a 1962 Honda CD110 50cc production racer, which revs to a stratospheric 13,500 rpm at £30,000-35,000, along with various other marques including Kawasaki, Triumph, Yamaha, Suzuki, Matchless, BSA and many others.
