THE company behind an extra care development to be built in Taunton hopes to be able to tweak its plans so the scheme is occupied quicker.

McCarthy and Stone has planning permission for 62 retirement living plus units on the site of the former Trinity Business Park and South Street.

The council has already given the go-ahead for the firm to build 27 one-bed and 35 two-bed units.

But it is now seeking planning permission from Somerset West and Taunton Council to put up 37 one-bed and 25 two-bed homes.

McCarthy and Stone's agent, in a letter to the council, says: "My client would like to make revisions to the scheme.

"In broad terms, the proposal is for a simpler built form but one which retains the fundamentals of the approved scheme.

"The proposed revised scheme is slightly smaller in its footprint.

"There is no change in the total number of units which remains at 62 but the proposed mix would change from 27 x 1 beds and 35 x 2 beds to 37 x 1 bed and 25 x 2 beds.

"The applicants believe that this would better address the local market meaning that ultimately the scheme would be fully occupied sooner."
