A TRAINEE accountant who glassed a man at the Steam Railway pub three days before Christmas has been disciplined by accountancy chiefs.

Gurdeep Mudhar walked free from court last year despite pleading guilty to causing grievous bodily harm when he attacked a man at the Old Town boozer on December 22, 2017. The then 25-year-old’s victim was left with a fragment of glass lodged in his head.

Swindon Crown Court heard Mudhar had stepped in after seeing another drinker confront a woman he believed had been bullying his daughter. CCTV showed Mudhar scuffling with the man, then bring down a glass on his victim’s head. Remorseful Mudhar was sentenced to 20 months imprisonment, suspended for two years. He was also told to do 200 hours’ unpaid work.

Now, the student's professional body, the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, has ordered him to be given a severe reprimand. He must also pay costs of £500 to the ACCA.
