AN INVESTIGATION has been launched after a woman was stabbed by an unknown man in Yeovil.

The incident happened near the junction of St Michael’s Avenue and Sherborne Road at around 3am today (August 24).

The 48-year-old woman suffered stab wounds caused by a sharp object.

Her injuries are not considered to be life-threatening or life-changing and she’s in a stable condition in hospital.

Police said the suspect is described as white, in his early to mid twenties, of slim build and around 5ft 5ins.

DI Lee Jones said: “This is a concerning incident and we’re carrying out an extensive investigation to identify the man responsible including a review of CCTV, house-to-house enquiries and forensic examinations.

“There’ll be additional patrols in the area and I’d encourage anyone with concerns to speak to their local neighbourhood officers.

“Thankfully the victim’s injuries are not as serious as they could have been but the incident has had a significant impact on her.

“If you saw a man acting suspiciously in the St Michael’s Avenue/Sherborne Road area of Yeovil in the early hours of this morning, or have any information which could help, please don’t hesitate to call us.”
