A MUCH-loved Somerset charity shop has a fresh new look after moving to a new location.

Leading veterinary charity PDSA, which provides free and reduced cost treatment to pets, has relocated its Yeovil shop to 20 Middle Street.

The shop will sell pre-loved and new items, plus pet products, all at bargain prices, with profits helping to fund the charity’s nationwide service.

The shop was officially opened by radio presenter and Yeovil resident Paul Peters.

Paul is no stranger to PDSA, having spent 14 years working with the charity. Paul was also the area assistant secretary when PDSA first entered the world of retail in the 1970s.

He said: “I am honoured to open the new-look PDSA Shop here in Yeovil, and I would like to congratulate everyone on their hard work in making this a reality.

“PDSA has always been close to my heart and over the years, I have witnessed first-hand how the funds raised from shops like Yeovil has made a difference to poorly and sick pets across the country. PDSA shops have come a long way since the 1970s.

"I remember there being no proper tills in the early shops, just a biscuit tin or desk drawer to put the takings in.

“The new shop has a truly modern feel and looks fantastic.

"I would encourage people to check out the brilliant new shop too and find some bargains and help provide a lifetime of wellbeing for local pets.”

Shop manager, Debbie Sherwood, said: "We’re very excited be in a new shop and prime location in Yeovil.

"The response so far has been fantastic but we still need support of local pet lovers.

"So if you’re having a clean or de-cluttering your home, why not donate your unwanted items to us?

“We’re appealing for all types of donations, clothing, homeware, DVDs, furniture and electrical items. And every penny we raise will help local sick and injured pets.”

Debbie added: “We’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers, who are passionate about pets, to lend a hand when the shop opens.

“Volunteering is fun and the skills you learn look great on any CV, plus you get to meet new people and make some friends along the way.

"No previous retail experience is needed, as full training will be provided.”
