A LANDMARK former cafe and Portuguese restaurant in Chard has been sold.

The property, in Fore Street, included the former café, a studio flat and an array of rooms, sold at auction for £108,000.

The building was the home of popular Portuguese restaurant Saraiva’s, which moved to premises in High Street earlier this year.

The mixed-use property was among lots at the sixth auction of 2019 by regional land and property auctioneers Clive Emson on September 12.

Auctioneer Graham Barton said: “This mixed-use property has a vast array of rooms over its four storey frontage and large two storey extension at the rear.

"The new owner has clear potential for continued commercial use on the ground floor in a prime town centre location while there is also the opportunity for a residential scheme of some kind, subject to the necessary consents."
