CARNIVAL marched through the streets of South Petherton once more as the popular parade made a storming return to form.

After being cancelled in 2018, this year saw the carnival resurrected with fancy floats, mesmerising majorettes, and Star Wars stormtroopers on display.

A plethora of prizes were handed out, with best overall float going to Juniors Reloaded.

Brewer’s Arms went home with best costumes, best music and 1st feature float.

Logan Charles took the final top prize for best overall walker, heading home with 1st adult walker in the process.

A spokesman for the carnival said: “Well done to everyone and huge thanks to all our supporting entries - desert divas, the fire brigade, Bournemouth Carnival Band, and Star Wars Garrison.

Angies CC were laughing after winning best comic float, Kai Newbery sealed top juvenile walker, and the best walking group went to South Petherton Cricket Club.

Heather Thomas, the carnival's new chairman for 2019, said: "What an amazing year we’ve had in the build up to bringing the carnival back to South Petherton.

"I have been left totally in awe at everyone’s generosity in their voluntary help and donations. It’s been a true show of community spirit at its best.

"The most honest critics of the evening would be from the children and, as we were taking down the bunting the day after, some children met up in the square and started talking excitedly about the carnival as they cycled off.

"Along with the sense of pride of being involved in such an event, it gives inspiration for the carnival in 2020.

"From myself, I was impressed with the turnout and quality of entries that the village produced. We would like to thank all the participants for producing a wonderful show for everyone and the volunteers for all their hard work.

"We are constantly looking for new members to help join our small team. We hold monthly meetings from the beginning of the new year at the Brewers arms, and any small amount of help throughout the year is appreciated."
