WEST Somerset MP Ian Liddell-Grainger has met the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Sajid Javid, to try and squeeze additional funding from the Treasury to spend on West Somerset schools.
The Government has already announced an additional £14 billion investment in the education budget over the next three years. The new cash means one secondary school in the Bridgwater and West Somerset constituency will receive at least £5,000 per pupil and four primary schools at least £3,750.
But Mr Liddell-Grainger argues that insufficient extra funds are being made available to schools in West Somerset.
“I greatly welcome the help that has already been unveiled,” he said.
“But I would like to see deserving schools in this area also recognised for a boost in their finances.
“I met the Chancellor privately to impress upon him the genuine needs we have.
"He listened sympathetically and I hope that there will be some movement on this very important issue soon.”
