AN INVESTIGATION has been launched by police after a fire was started deliberately at a property in Taunton.

Firefighters, police and paramedics were called at around 7am on Tuesday (September 17) to reports of a small fire at a house of multiple occupancy in Cheddon Road in Taunton.

Two fire engines from Taunton were sent to the scene and police and ambulance were also called to the scene.

A spokesman for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said ten people were evacuated from the property and the fire had been caused 'deliberately.'

The spokesman said:"We were called to reports of a fire of a three storey house of multiple occupancy in Cheddon Road.

"Ten people were evacuated from the property and one person was rescued by one of the other occupants.

"Crews provided first aid to the person by a fellow occupant and they have been taken to hospital for further treatment.

"It was a small fire which started in the rear bedroom of the property.

"The cause of the fire was found to be deliberate. Police attended the scene, along with a fire investigation officer."

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police confirmed they have launched an investigation into the incident.

The spokesman said: "Police were called to Cheddon Road, Taunton at around 7am on Tuesday, September 17, after receiving a report of a fire in the property.

"One person was treated at hospital and later discharged.

"The fire and rescue service have confirmed the fire was started deliberately and a police investigation is underway.
