AN RAF veteran is set to conquer an epic rowing challenge which will see him complete 10 marathons in 10 days.

Andy Webb, a member of Chard’s Royal British Legion, launched his Overlord Challenge this summer, and has been training and fundraising ever since.

Now, Andy is ready to take on the row at different locations across Chard and Ilminster.

Andy’s total target - 262 miles - was inspired by the D-Day Landings, codenamed Operation Overlord, which marked its 75th anniversary this year.

If successful, he will cover the equivalent of rowing from Portland in Dorset to Sword Beach in Normandy and then back again.

Andy said: “I am starting the challenge on Thursday (October 31) at 5pm at Crossfit Wolfram.

“On Saturday, November 2, I am rowing at Tesco Ilminster, and other locations are still being planned.”

Andy will complete his 10th and final marathon row on November 9 at Holyrood Academy.

He will be joined by 12 teams of between four and six rowers, each striving to complete each team rowing 100k alongside Andy.

He added: “All my training is now complete. I have rowed over a million metres in five months.

“The longest distance in a week has been 190k. It’s the biggest physical challenge I have ever attempted.”

All the money raised will go to Chard’s 2019 Poppy Appeal.

Andy said: “The Poppy Appeal is very important to me as a veteran. My late wife served in the RAF, my eldest son has been medical discharged after serving six years in the special forces, and my third son is serving in the Royal Engineer Commandos.

“I have used the services from the RBL and aim to raise money to help many others.”
