MORE Than £2,000 has been handed to the nation’s biggest cancer support charity thanks to a team of hardworking fundraisers in Ilminster.

The group of enterprising ladies collected £2,120 with their annual event, which was held as part of Macmillan Cancer Support’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.

After gathering in the town’s market square, the team handed a giant charity cheque to Macmillan’s regional fundraiser for Somerset, Genevieve Drinkwater.

She said: “This is a terrific boost to our funds and represents the largest amount raised in the area.

“Thank you Ilminster for your tremendous support.”

This year Angie Blackwell from Cottage Flowers organised a cake delivery service to local shops and businesses, which proved very popular.

Co-organiser Julie Fowler said: ”We had tremendous support from local businesses and voluntary organisations as well as the wonderful community of Ilminster.

“A big thank you to all those who gave so generously of their time and effort as well as those who supported the event on the day.

“It is a marvellous result and could not have been achieved without great team work from everyone.”

So far, 2019’s UK-wide coffee morning has seen £17,653,766 raised for Macmillan. For more, visit coffee.macmillan.org.uk.
