SOMERSET has been warned to brace itself as heavy rain and strong winds are set to hit the county.

The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for rain starting from 6am on Saturday (November 2) until1 11.59pm on Saturday.

They have also issued a yellow weather warning for wind which will be in place from 4am until 6pm on Saturday.

Forecasters have warned residents in the South West to expect very strong winds, heavy rain, power cuts, longer journey times and the potential for damage to buildings as high speed winds are set to hit the county.

A Met Office spokesman, said: "There is a chance of further heavy rain on Saturday leading to some flooding and travel disruption.

"Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.

"There is a small chance that some communities become cut off by flooded roads.

"There is a slight chance of power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses."

Forecasters have also warned residents in the South West that there is a 'small chance' of danger to life from flying debris.

A Met Office spokesman added: "There is a slight chance of some damage to trees and buildings, such as tiles blown from roofs.

"There is a small chance that some roads and bridges could close."

"There is a slight chance that power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage."
