AN elderly man who dishonestly failed to promptly tell the Department for Work and Pensions that he was working has been landed with a £705 bill.

Simon Vale, 66, of Stoneyhead Caravan Park, Wrantage, knew that informing the department would affect his entitlement to Pension Credit.

The case went to Taunton Magistrates' Court yesterday (Tuesday) and was brought by the CPS specialiast fraud division.

Vale initially denied the allegation but changed his plea to guilty ahead of a trial.

He was handed a community order with 90 hours unpaid work and ordered to pay £620 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.
