THE BUILDING firm behind Chard's brand new Lidl store has released a video showing the project's progress.

Jessops Construction, working on behalf of planning agents Quora Ltd, completed the structure of the building, the external fittings and car park in July, before Lidl started work on the interior.

A spokesman for Jessops Construction said: "We are delighted to have successfully delivered this Lidl scheme on behalf of our client Quora Ltd.

"It was important to guarantee the festive trading period in their new store and delivering this scheme on programme has accommodated this.

"We wish the Chard team every success in their new premises."

Jessops Construction started with the demolition of disused Brecknell Willis buildings, beginning in October 2018.

In November 2018, construction crews removed a prominent church bell fro the site and donated it to Chard Museum.

The firm then got to work excavating 11,809 cubic metres of material.

In April of this year, Jessops started on the 76 tonne steel structure, and then began on the car park and tarmacing in May 2019.

The project was finished on July 26, 2019.
